Photographing to document a bygone era

Although Lucia Moholy took some artistic photographs, such as portraits, she is primarily known for her shots documenting the Bauhaus movement, including its interior and exterior architecture, as well as the works of its teachers and students.

Exterior architecture shots

Among the exterior architecture photographs taken by Lucia Moholy are images of the school (particularly the Dessau building), as well as other Bauhaus creations, mostly those of Walter Gropius.

Interior architecture shots

Regarding interior architecture photographs, we similarly find images of the interiors of buildings associated with the Bauhaus movement, often designed by Walter Gropius, such as the Dessau school.

Shots of inanimate objects

There are also photographs of objects, sometimes created by the students of the school.
Most of these shots are still lifes: staged arrangements of inanimate objects.

Portraits

Finally, Lucia Moholy is also the creator of a series of portraits, mostly close-ups focusing on her subjects’ faces.
